Events

  • Hiero I of Syracuse allied with Aristodemus, tyrant of Cumae, to counter the expansion of the Etruscans to southern Italy. In the Gulf of Naples, they meet the Etruscan fleet. After their defeat at the Battle of Cumae the Etruscans largely lose their political influence in Italy. This is probably the time to overthrown the monarchy in Rome and the Roman Republic was founded.
