( 4818 ) Elgar is one of the main belt asteroid that was discovered on 1 March 1984 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station (IAU code 688 ) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County.

The asteroid was named after the English composer Sir Edward William Elgar, whose most famous work Pomp & Circumstance March No.. 1 was an integral part of the annual Last Night of the Proms.
