(4837) Bickerton

( 4837 ) Bickerton is one of the main asteroid belt, which from the New Zealand astronomer Alan C. Gilmore and Pamela Margaret Kilmartin at Mount John Observatory ( IAU code 474) was discovered on 30 June 1989.
The asteroid was named after Alexander W. Bickerton, the first Professor of Chemistry at Canterbury College (now the University of Canterbury ) and teacher of Ernest Rutherford.
