The 48th Emmy Awards in prime time division took place on 7 and 8 September 1996 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles. In the United States, the award ceremony was broadcast by ABC on September 8. The hosts of the event were Michael J. Fox, Paul Reiser and Oprah Winfrey.
