(49 ) Pales is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt, which was discovered on September 19, 1857 by Hermann Mayer Salomon Goldschmidt.

It was named after celestial bodies Pales, the Roman patron goddess of the pastures, shepherds and flocks.

Pales has a diameter of 150 km. It has a dark carbonaceous surface with an albedo of 0.06.

In 10 hours and 25 minutes to rotate about its own axis.
