4th Berlin International Film Festival

The International Film Festival Berlin 1954 were held to 29 June 1954 by June 18.

Summary

Richard Widmark, Jean Marais, Curd Jürgens, Vittorio de Sica, Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida were the big stars who attended the Berlinale in an unprecedented pitch number. Again, the Bears were awarded by the audience, with actor films won the race. Again remained some highly respected films today without price: the miraculous power ( Magnificent Obsession ) by Douglas Sirk and Akira Kurosawa's To Live ( Ikiru ) belonged to it, with Kurosawa won at least one of the special prizes of the Senate of Berlin.

Also in 1954 was debated in the run-up to the Berlin Film Festival on budget cuts, again, it was only thanks to the devoted work of the festival director Alfred Bauer, the Berlinale had a fairly substantial budget. Not insignificantly for the remarkably vague political and therefore financial security of the festival was no doubt that an overly obvious participation of the Federal violated the neutral status of Berlin and political irritation at the highest level would have resulted.
