5 (Lenny Kravitz album)

5 is the fifth studio album by Lenny Kravitz. For the hit Fly Away and his cover of the song American Woman, originally by The Guess Who, Kravitz a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance won.

On the origin

In the production of the album Kravitz worked with synthesizers and loops, which should give the album a more modern sound. Musically the pieces, however, were rather inspired by the 1970s and combined as radio - elements with Kravitz's rock style. The song American Woman was also used as soundtrack for the film Austin Powers - The Spy Who Shagged used.

The album reached # 28 on the Billboard 200, number six in the German charts and number one in Austria and number three in Switzerland. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic wrote the album bein think some decent pieces, but it falls back behind the tunes that made his first three plates so enjoyable.
