50 Greatest Players in NBA History

The 50 Greatest Players in NBA History ( German 50 best players in NBA history ), also known as the NBA 's 50th Anniversary All- Time Team or NBA 's Top 50 known to have been the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the U.S. professional basketball league National Basketball Association ( NBA) together. Officially were the names of the players on 29 October 1996 by David Stern, Commissioner of the NBA, announced in New York City. This took place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, which stands on the site of the former Commodore Hotel. There, the contracts for the National Basketball Association were signed on 6 June 1946.

At half-time of the taking place on February 9, 1997 NBA All- Star Game at the Gund Arena in Cleveland, the players were honored with a personal introduction. Three players were unable to attend the ceremony. Pete Maravich died in January 1988 with only 40 years. For him his two sons were present. Jerry West and Shaquille O'Neal could not travel due to illness.

The jury

For the compilation of a group of, inter alia, former players, coaches, journalists and general manager was responsible. Former players were not allowed to vote for themselves. The judges were able to make their choice, regardless of playing position or ranking.

Facts

  • At the time of the election were still 11 players in the list is active (written in italics ). Shaquille O'Neal finished his career as the last in June 2011.
  • The Nigerian Hakeem Olajuwon is the only non- American on the list.
  • Bill Sharman and Lenny Wilkens are the only ones of the 50 that were recorded both as a player and as a coach in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
