5000 Volts

5000 Volts was a British disco band or a studio project, the mid-1970s, particularly through their hit I'm on Fire known throughout Europe and became popular. The core of the band consisted of musicians Tony Eyers and Martin Jay and the singer Tina Charles.

Band History

In the late 1960s were Jay and Charles together in a band called "Northern Lights", but then went their separate ways once again. Tina Charles launched a solo career.

The time in the UK quite successful composer and studio musician Tony Eyers wrote 1975 songs Bye Love and I'm on Fire, and recorded a single with studio musicians by guitarist Martin Jay and Tina Charles on.

In Germany, the single was first released under the band name "Airbus ". However, when they should appear in the UK, one A- and B-side exchanged because I'm on Fire had arrived at the better disc jockeys, and also changed the name in 5000 Volts. Also in Germany the modified single was again released with the parentheses "Airbus ".

Since Tina Charles in the UK had an exclusive contract with CBS, her name did not appear on the album cover for band photo had to serve the British photo model Luan Peters.

I'm on Fire reached on December 8, 1975 # 1 on the German charts. Across Europe, the song was a top ten hit in Sweden and France, also reached number 1 in the UK was the song at # 4 and even in the U.S. it reached in October 1975 to 26th place.

Because of the success we now require a real band and so completed drummer Kevin Wells and bassist Martin Cohen, who had already been with the band " Northern Lights" of the party, and keyboardist Mike Nelson the occupation. The next single Look Out, I'm Coming Tina Charles was also officially the singer, but what could not prevent the single flopped in the UK. On the continent, the song appeared as a B-side of Motion Man and there was again a chart hit.

Meanwhile, Tina Charles had but also added two solo singles, what it finally came to disputes and separation. Tina Charles started a very successful solo career.

New Singer of 5000 Volts was Linda Kelly. With it, you took on the single Doctor Kiss -Kiss, which became a Top Ten hit in the UK again. However, the band lacked the voice of their biggest success and as more singles as well as an album more or less flopped and in a few countries reached only rear seats hit parade, the band broke up in 1977.
