Politics and World Affairs

  • As of January: The Ostrogoths begin in Gothic war, to besiege the last year of Belisarius conquered the Eastern Roman Empire city of Rome; particularly fierce battles take place at the Porta Pinciana. The perennial struggles around the city provide for the actual destruction of the ancient city image that has the 455 still survived largely undamaged by the conquests of the Visigoths 410 and the Vandals.
  • March 29: The Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I is Vigilius as the anti-pope against the Pope ostgotenfreundlichen Silverius; he hopes that the recognition of the Monophysite doctrine.
  • November 11: Justinian I seized Pope Silverius ', sets it down for treason and exiled him to the small Asian Patera. A little later, Justinian allowed him although his return to Italy, but sends Vigilius him on an island in the Gulf of Naples ( Capri, Ponza ), where he died on 2 December.
