( 55576 ) Amycus is an asteroid from the group of centaurs.

He was discovered as part of the NEAT project at Palomar Observatory (IAU code 644 ) in California on April 8, 2002.

It is named after the Centaur Amycus, son of Ophion, who attended the wedding celebration of the Lapiths King Pirithous, where he was killed in battle.
