Europe

• The beginning of the Balkan campaigns of Maurikios, a long series of mostly successful campaigns of the East Romans against the Avars and Slavs, where Eastern Roman armies lag the Avars and Slavs across the Danube to inflict them, also there defeats. These campaigns can find no earlier than the fall of the Emperor Maurikios result of a further flared up war with Persia 602/603 to an end and give the Danubian provinces of the Eastern Roman Empire a breathing space until at least 612
