600-meter amateur radio band

As a 630- meter band is defined as the frequency range of 472 kHz to 479 kHz. It is in the medium wave range. The name is derived from the wavelength of this frequency range.

Propagation conditions

After sunset ranges of several 1000 km are possible because the D layer of the ionosphere is completely gone and then a reflection takes place in the lower region of the F layer. Situated near the surface D layer attenuates the body waves in the day, resulting in lower ranges can be achieved.

630 -meter amateur band

The World Radiocommunication Conference 2012 (WRC- 12) allocated to the amateur service on January 1, 2013 the frequency range 472-479 kHz worldwide with secondary status. The 630- meter band is so - after the 160 - meter band - the second amateur radio band in the medium-wave band. The International Maritime Organization (IMO ) had previously spoken out against such an assignment, because they feared harmful interference to existing and future wireless systems of the maritime mobile service.

The implementation at the national level for Germany is planned by the Federal Network Agency in early 2013. The Official Journal 11/2012 of 13 June 2012, the toleration of the use of radio amateurs Class A was declared with a maximum radiated power of 1 W ERP now.
