(6124) Mecklenburg

( 6124 ) Mecklenburg is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered by the German astronomer frankness Börngen on 29 September 1987 at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg (IAU code 033). An unconfirmed sighting of the asteroid (1971 SM), there had been already on September 16, 1971 to the Argentine Felix Aguilar Observatory.

In early editions of the AstDyS -2 database ( 6124 ) Mecklenburg Hilda group is assigned an asteroid family, which moves in an orbital resonance of 3:2 with the planet Jupiter around the Sun. Namesake of this group is the asteroid (153 ) Hilda. Page mid-2013 defines the database own asteroid family, in ( 6124 ) Mecklenburg is the eponymous asteroid. To Mecklenburg family include with stand 55 December 2013 of the numbered asteroids, for example, ( 14195 ) 1998 XD51, ( 17212 ) 2000 AV183, ( 32455 ) 2000 SW60 and ( 99862 ) Kenlevin.

After FORMING classification (Small Main -Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey) is assumed in a spectroscopic investigation of Gianluca Masi, Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel at ( 6124 ) Mecklenburg of a dark surface, it could be so grossly seen to act a C- asteroids.

The asteroid was named at the suggestion of sincerity Börngen by the Mecklenburg on 17 March 1995 in honor of the 1,000 th anniversary in 1995. The name Mecklenburg ( " Mikel castle " ) first appears in a document from the year 995.
