• King Penda of Mercia invades East Anglia, whose king Ecgric falls in battle; Ecgrics successor is King Anna.
• Earconberht I. and Eormenred be jointly king of Kent as the successor of Eadbald.

Islamic expansion

• July 6: The Muslims under Amr ibn al-As defeat at the Battle of Heliopolis, the Byzantines in Egypt. Alexandria can still claim to 642. Egypt will govern a province of the Umayyad, from Damascus.

• Caesarea Maritima falls as the last Byzantine stronghold in Palestine into Arab hands.

• To 640 dies of Aksumite king Armah. Other rulers are not used due to lack of coin finds. The Aksumite Empire is isolated but still up 916.
