( 662) Newtonia is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 30 March 1908 in Taunton by the American astronomer Joel H. Metcalf.

The asteroid was named by Z. Daniel from the observatory at Princeton University by the U.S. small town of Newton in Massachusetts because he could not decide whether to with the designation of Isaac Newton (1643-1727) or the astronomer Hubert Anson Newton (1830 -1896 ) should honor. After Isaac Newton, the comet (8000) Isaac Newton is named since 1998.
