- After the death of the Merovingian shadow king Theodoric IV of the Carolingian house Meier Karl Martell sets whose son Childeric III. off and locks him in a monastery. Charles Martel then reigned the Frankish Empire in its own name. His successors, Carloman and Pepin the 743 again set a shadow king.
