( 7621 ) Sweelinck is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered on 24 September 1960 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten couple and Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld. The discovery came as part of the Palomar - Leiden Survey, which recorded by Tom Gehrels with the 120 - inch Oschin Schmidt telescope at Palomar Observatory field plates at Leiden University were screened.

( 7621 ) Sweelinck is named after the Dutch organist and composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck ( 1562-1621 ), who practiced as an organist at the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam great impact on the North German organ school of the 17th century. The appointment was made on 16 October 1997. Sweelinck together with Girolamo Frescobaldi as the most influential composer of keyboard instruments of the first half of the 17th century. After Frescobaldi, the asteroid of the outer main belt ( 11289 ) Frescobaldi was named.
