8 Metre (keelboat)

The meter is a measurement formula formula for classic racing yachts of the meter class.

The formula created by Alfred Benzon was established in 1906 in London at the founding of the International Yacht Racing Union ( ISAF ) by the representatives of the major European sailing associations as new, valid for all nations surveying formula for racing yachts. It was introduced in most sailing nations from 1908. The measurement was carried out by classification societies such as Germanischer Lloyd.

The meter formula is now as follows: (except 5.5mR class, see below)

Where:

R - the racing value [m ]

L - the tonnage length of the hull [m ] measured at 1.5% of the value of racing on the water line

D - the difference between Schmiegeumfang ( Spantkrümmung the following) and perimeter chain [m ] (Fig. 1)

F - the height of the ship's side above the water line [m ]

S - the sail area [m² ]

The meter formula for 5.5mR class is different:

D - the displacement of [ m³]

S - the sail area [m² ]
