80 South Street

80 South Street is a planned skyscraper in New York City, which was presented to the public in August 2012.

Description

80 South Street is situated directly opposite the landmark New York City's South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan. The building will be 310 meters tall and have 74 floors, according to current plans. In 2004 there was a project by the famous architect Santiago Calatrava, who designed, among other things, the design of the new World Trade Center station. This should reach a height of 342 meters originally. Due to financial difficulties, the project was rejected.

The new tower will be slightly lower and include with a floor space of 28,000 m² both residential and hotel units. As a new architect Anthony Morali was chosen. His goal is to design a so-called Green Tower, all 15 floors contains a green terrace and the residents offers a breathtaking view of the East River and the world- famous Brooklyn Bridge.

The construction of skyscrapers requires the consent and various approvals from the City Planning Commission and the NYC Deptartment of Buildings. This process may take up to a year. In February 2013, the tower was given a first building permit. In addition, a new official height of 310 meters was announced.

With the completion of the tower is not expected before 2017.
