(8436) Leucopsis

( 8436 ) Leucopsis is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered on 25 March 1971 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten couple and Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld. The discovery took place within the first Trojan survey, in which the 120 - cm Oschin Schmidt telescope at Palomar Observatory recorded by Tom Gehrels field plates at Leiden University were screened, eleven years after the beginning of the Palomar - Leiden Surveys.

After FORMING classification (Small Main -Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey) were assumed in ( 8436 ) Leucopsis of a dark surface with a spectroscopic investigation of Gianluca Masi, Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel, it might be so, roughly speaking, to act a C- asteroids.

( 8436 ) Leucopsis is named after the barnacle goose, whose scientific name Branta leucopsis is. At the time of designation of the asteroid on February 2, 1999, was the Barnacle Goose as a winter visitor to the Dutch Blue List important birds, which was published in 1994 together with the Dutch Red List of endangered bird species.
