( 8498 ) Ufa is one of the outer main belt asteroid, which was discovered by the Ukrainian- Soviet astronomer Ljudmyla Schurawlowa on September 15, 1990 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095). Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had (1982 DE2 ) where it previously on 18 and 19 February 1977 ( 1977 DL5 ) in the Japanese Kiso Observatory, as well as on 20 and February 21, 1982 at Kleť Observatory in Český Krumlov.

The asteroid is part of the Eos family, a group of asteroids, which typically have semi-major axes from 2.95 to 3.1 AE, bounded on the inside of the Kirkwood gap in the 7:3 resonance with Jupiter, and orbital inclinations between 8 ° and 12 degrees. The group is named after the asteroid (221 ​​) Eos. It is believed that the family was created over one billion years ago by a collision. The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 8498 ) Ufa are almost identical to those of the smaller, if we start from the absolute brightness of 16.6 compared with 12.7, asteroid ( 216812 ) 2006 TA118.

( 8498 ) was named after Ufa Ufa on 24 January 2000, the capital of the Russian republic of Bashkortostan.
