( 8550 ) Hesiod is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered on 12 August 1994 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code 809).

The asteroid was (* BC before 700) named after the Greek poet Hesiod, who told the myth of Pandora's box in his didactic poem Works and Days.
