86th Infantry Division (German Empire)

The 86th Infantry Division ( ID 86 ) was a military major unit of the Wehrmacht.

Division history

The 86th ID was set on 26 August 1939 as part of the second wave formation. First, it was used in the Eifel, from June 1940 for one year in France, then she was transferred to the Eastern Front and assigned to the 9th Army.

On November 3, 1943, the 86th ID was closed because of heavy losses in the German -Soviet war. The division headquarters, supply troops and other units were then used for the preparation of the 361st Infantry Division. The other members of the 86th ID division formed the group 86, which was the Corps Division E assumed.
