(8965) Citrinella

( 8965 ) citrinella is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered on 24 September 1960 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten couple and Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld. The discovery came as part of the Palomar - Leiden Survey, which recorded by Tom Gehrels with the 120 - inch Oschin Schmidt telescope at Palomar Observatory field plates at Leiden University were screened.

The asteroid is part of the Themis family, a group of asteroids, which was named after ( 24) Themis. The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 8965 ) citrinella are almost identical with those of three smaller, if we start from the absolute brightness of 14.4, 16.7 and 16.2 compared with 13.0, asteroid ( 71725 ) 2000 HN9, (300212) 2006 WZ153 and ( 323 595 ) 2004 TB281.

( 8965 ) citrinella is named after the Yellowhammer, Emberiza citrinella whose scientific name is. At the time of designation of the asteroid on February 2, 1999, Goldammer was on the Dutch Red List of Threatened Species.
