With the All-Highest - Cabinet -Order ( AKO ) from September 4, 1913 October 1, 1913, the formation of a regiment was ordered hunters on horseback with the number 8.

These had to give:

  • 4th Squadron / Westphalian Uhlan Regiment No. 5
  • 2nd Squadron / 2 Hanoverian Dragoons 16
  • 2nd Squadron / Hussars " Landgrave Frederick II of Hesse -Homburg " (2 Kurhessisches ) # 14
  • 4th Squadron / 2 Guards Dragoon Regiment " Empress Alexandra of Russia
  • 1st Squadron / 2 Grand Duke of Mecklenburg's Dragoon Regiment No. 18

At the beginning of the First World War, the hunters moved in the Association of 16th Cavalry Brigade (together with the hunters on horseback Regiment No. 7), first to the West, in order to be transferred to the Eastern Front in the spring of 1915. Here the regiment his task was used according to the patrol, security and intelligence services. No evidence is yet available for the period after August 1916.

The tradition took over in the Reichswehr, the 4th squadron of the 9th ( Prussian ) Reiter- Regiment in Beeskow.

Uniform

The uniform was modeled after the style of the cuirassiers. The tunic was gray with green Swedish cuffs. Collar, cuffs and forays were bright green, the color white badge on the other hand. The buttons were white, black boots and leather stuff. The officer's helmet as the cuirassiers, but blackened sheet with Dragoon Eagle as an ornamental, Mount rails chinscales and tip were made of Tombak. The team helmet corresponded to the helmet of the Dragoons. ( As in the preparation of the regiments 8-13 were not enough Kürassierhelme available, the conversion was not until 1915. ) Were carried dragoon boots. The epaulettes were provided with the regimental number.
