On 16 August 2009, two companion of Minerva by a team led by Franck Marchis were discovered by means of adaptive optics of the Keck II telescope. Both 3 and 4 km large moons orbiting the Minerva at a distance of 385 or 651 km, received in December 2013, the official name Gorgoneion and Aegis.
