94 Diskont

94 discount is an album of experimental electro group Oval. It was released in 1995 on Mille Plateaux and was re-released in autumn 1996 on Thrill Jockey for the U.S. market.

The vinyl edition of the album was released along with a remix LP, which contained remixes of Mouse on Mars, Robert Rimbaud, Cristian Vogel, and Jim O'Rourke.

Style

The innovative, new music from Oval became a highly praised and discussed on the other controversy. The style methods of the project were, for example, the destruction of music and audio devices by scalpel knife, paint and tape to damage the surface of compact discs. The corrupted music was then reassembled and looped into rhythms, which were determined by the jumpers and hangers of the CD.

94diskont was initially together with the previous album, Systemic published. The album revolves mainly around the first track, Do While, a 24 -minute track, which was actually designed for the art installation " Wohnton " of the group. " Wohnton " was between 1994 and 1996 on various occasions, both art exhibitions as well as techno raves, exhibited throughout Europe.

Reception

At the time of publication of 94 Discount The Wire placed the album at # 5 years of their leaderboard.

Allmusic awarded five out of five stars on the album and wrote that " 94 discount without a doubt in the electronically advanced, glitchigen music box is an outstanding work ."

In a report from 2003, Pitchfork Media placed the album at # 47 of their top 100 list of albums from the nineties. Mark Richardson wrote at Pitchfork:

" Sounds appear as complex holograms, while at the same time compete the sound sources and ghostly copies for attention. A work of acoustic trickery, which produced the calmest and aqua dished music of the 90s. "
