- FEBRUARY 20: Otto III. reached on his new campaign in Italy Rome. He succeeds the party of the antipope John XVI. to defeat. This is blinded and sent to a monastery. Pope Gregory V, a relative of the emperor's reign gets back over the city.
- Heribert of Cologne is of Otto III. appointed Chancellor of Germany.
- On Ascension a Venetian fleet wins under Doge Pietro II Orseolo a victory over the Dalmatians, to which the city-state since a defeat in the year had to pay 887 Tribute. Venice commemorates this day since then with its own holiday, the Festa della Sensa.
