- February 7: Boleslav III. after the death of his father Duke Boleslav II of Bohemia of the dynasty of Přemyslids. Soon after the adoption of the rule, he comes into conflict with his brothers Jaromir and Oldrich fleeing him to Regensburg.
- April 26: Otto III. gives his sister Adelheid, Abbess of Quedlinburg, the area of Gera.
- The last Burgundian king Rudolf III. leaves the county Wallis Bishop Hugh of customs as a fief, this is therefore the first prince-bishop.
