9th Dalai Lama

Lungtog Gyatsho (* 1805 in the district Zamtang, Ngawa, Sichuan, † March 26, 1815 ) was the ninth Dalai Lama.

Life

The Chinese emperor Qianlong in 1792 adopted a set of laws for the effective administration of Tibet. One of these laws changed the method of electing the Dalai Lama. From now on, a new Dalai Lama should be drawn. This should include all children who could be a possible reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, are sought to be auszulosen from them the new Dalai Lama.

Since Lungtog Gyatsho, when found, so impressive knowledge possessed by the life of the previous Dalai Lamas, they asked the Emperor to make this time an exception. This request was the Emperor after and so ascended Lungtog Gyatsho on November 10, 1808 the throne in Potala Palace.

On March 26, 1815 Lungtog Gyatsho died at the age of nine, probably of pneumonia. At this time there was a conflict over the government violence in Tibet between the Chinese emperor and the Tibetan Government Gaden Phodrang of ( Tib: dga ' ldan pho brang ).
