A Change of Seasons (English: " A Change of Seasons" ) is an EP of the American progressive metal band Dream Theater, which was published in 1995.
Background
The title track " A Change of Seasons " is a 23 -minute, divided into seven chapters song. The text of the play was written by Mike Portnoy, music composed by the entire band. The origins of the song are from the year 1989, the time of origin of the album Images and Words. After the live performance of an early version of this work in 1993 and a further revision of the song was recorded. The rest of the CD is filled with recordings of live performance under the motto " Uncovered", which took place on 31 January 1995 at Ronnie Scott 's Jazz Club in London. These are the four pieces completely around cover versions of tracks by Elton John, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin as well as a medley of pieces from Pink Floyd, Kansas, Queen, Journey, Dixie Dregs and the Genesis.
" A Change of Seasons " is rarely played in its full length. A complete live version was performed at the band's gig on 30 August 2000 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York and a recording of this concert was released on the live album Live Scenes from New York.
As is typical of pieces of Progressive Metal, is the work of considerable length. Dream Theater released four more pieces whose length is above the 20 - minute limit: " Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence ", the longest 42 minutes of the piece band, " Octavarium ", which lasts 24 minutes, the 25-minute " In the Presence of Enemies "from the album Systematic Chaos, and the 22 - minute piece " Illumination Theory " from self-titled album Dream Theater.
