A Home at the End of the World (film)

A Home at the End of the World is a film adaptation of the eponymous novel by Michael Cunningham ( The Hours ) from the year 2004. The film is the debut feature by director Michael Mayer. As a leading man he could win such well-known actors like Colin Farrell, Sissy Spacek and Robin Wright Penn for the project.

Action

The film tells the story of the orphan boy Bobby and starts at the end of the 60s. Bobby and his brother Carlton experience the flower-power time with drugs and parties with full. But at one of these parties, it is an accident, dies of its consequences Carlton.

After a leap in time you will find the audience in high school, Bobby again. It's not just a pretty boy and so it is not surprising that he, namely Jonathan befriends another outsider at school. The boys are best friends and as Bobby's parents die, Bobby finds a surrogate family with Jonathan and his parents. Especially to a surrogate mother Alice ( Sissy Spacek ) developed a special relationship with Bobby. But even with Jonathan joins him a deep friendship, which is also accompanied by pubertal playing under the covers. When her affection is but another discovered by Jonathan's mother, as this caught the two kissing, changed abruptly lot. Jonathan moves to New York, while Bobby stays with Jonathan's family.

After another time jump is the action in the early eighties, right in the East Village of New York. Bobby ( Colin Farrell ), now grown up, where it meets Jonathan ( Dallas Roberts) again and moves in with him and his friend and roommate, Clare (Robin Wright Penn ). He begins a three-way relationship with Clare and Jonathan. This feeling of chaos is too much for Jonathan and he flees formally to his parents. When Jonathan's father dies, Bobby and Clare travel to him to assist him. However, it is also a very emotional discussion of all participants. The icing on the cake of the whole thing is still the confession of Clare that she is expecting a child. The three want to make the most of their situation and so they solve their apartment in New York to move into a house in the country.

Bobby opened a café to feed the little patchwork family. Bobby and Clare have a daughter and so they live for some time all together. Clare observed during this time the two men, which they both love to be able to determine need, that the feelings between Bobby and Jonathan are very strong as before. She decides, therefore, to want to stand no longer between the two men, and travels with her daughter from. Bobby and Jonathan are very concerned about the other, they are now, though their way to each other.
