Occupation

A Momentary Lapse of Reason is the title of an album by the English rock group Pink Floyd, released on 7 September 1987. The title is a quote from the piece included on the album " One Slip". Following the publication of the album peaked in the music charts in the UK and the U.S. 3rd place, 2nd place in Germany Some of the shots of the plate found in the studio of David Gilmour instead: the houseboat Astoria.

Formation

The album was produced by Bob Ezrin and David Gilmour, the cover was designed by Storm Thorgerson. It was the first album by Pink Floyd, after the lawyers of the former bassist and songwriter Roger Waters had in 1985 declared the band to be dissolved. The pieces were mostly written by David gilmoure and Anthony Moore.

Both fans and critics one stood the album initially very critical, but you went through the departure of Waters from the loss of the driving creative force in Pink Floyd. The more Gilmour was determined to present album again " floydianisches ", and did not hesitate, despite the ongoing legal dispute with Roger Waters, committing financial resources and diverse co- songwriters and guest musicians to achieve this. An additional piquant circumstance was the cooperation of Bob Ezrin on the album, but Waters raised the accusation that Ezrin him (Waters ) was first given a commitment to produce his album " Radio KAOS ".

The album was to appear also the play " Peace Be With You ", which was intended as a conciliatory farewell song to Waters. Ultimately, however, it was not published.

Keyboardist Richard Wright, who had been forced out of the band during the production of "The Wall" by Roger Waters, returned during the recordings for " A Momentary Lapse of Reason" to the band. He played keyboards, inter alia, on the song "Sorrow", where his singing is heard in the background. He also brought on "On the turning away" a keyboard solo one, but this was removed from Gilmour again. Since Wright of the band initially not officially joined, it is listed in early editions of the album only as a guest musician. On the tour, the album however, he was again recorded as a full band member.

Reception

Although the album was ultimately noted that Waters was missing as Gilmour's partner and Counterparty (as well as vice versa Waters ' dominance in the last common album The Final Cut was felt), it may in retrospect as a typical, produced on glossy work of the late 1980s years apply. For some fans, the album is controversial: while the return was too flat, spherical sounds generally welcomed, many fans complain about weaknesses in the song material. Especially lyrically the songs from "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" based on a comparison to the Waters - dominated albums as disappointing.
