A Pub with No Beer

A Pub With No Beer is a country song, which was known in 1957 by Slim Dusty in Australia and the United States. Bobbejaan Schoepen published in 1959 under the title Café zonder bier a Dutch version, a German version followed in 1960 under the title I stand at the bar and I have no money.

History

The song was performed by Gordon Parsons processing of the original by Dan Sheahan from Inham, North Queenslans (originally from Newmarket, Ireland) written poem "A Pub Without Beer". 1957 "A Pub With No Beer" was the first Australian gold single. 1959 Dusty wrote a sequel to "The Answer To A Pub With No Beer", the reason for the failed Beer delivery is explained.

In May 2001 the Australasian Performing Rights Association ( ARPA ) with a list of the best Australian songs of all time celebrated her 75th birthday. A forum of 100 experts stated, " A Pub With No Beer number five on this list. In June 2008, the song was recorded " Australian sound " from the National Film and Sound Archive in the register.

Europe

The Flemish entertainer Bobbejaan Schoepen recorded the song in different languages. His Dutch version ( "Café zonder bier " ) debuted in 1959 and the German version followed in 1960 under the title " I stand at the bar and have no money ." The song was in Belgium and Austria a number one hit, 1960 and remained for 30 weeks in the German charts, where it reached number 6.

"A Pub With No Beer" is also the title song and title of a Belgian- British film from 1962, known under the titles " De Ordonnans " and "At the Drop of a Head ". In 1999, the alternative rock band Dead Man Ray wrote a (partly ) new soundtrack for the film, and took it on tour in the Netherlands.

America

In 1960 Americanized Benny Barnes of Beaumont (Texas ) "A Pub With No Beer" and released the song under the new title " With No Beer Bar " The song was on the Hall - Way label to a regional hit. The melody of this version is almost identical to Stephen Foster's " Beautiful Dreamer ". In 1985 was included on the album "Song in a Seashell " " Bar with No Beer" by Tom T. Hall. Johnny Cash, who has also played the song, had advised him to recording.
