A Son of the Circus

Circus Child (Original Title: A Son of the Circus) is published in 1995, eighth novel by John Irving, translated by Irene Rumler.

A native of India and lives in Germany, Dr. Daruwalla regularly spends several months in Bombay to operate there in a clinic for crippled children and after the dwarf gene - to look - a genetic marker for dwarfism.
