A Tale in the Desert

A Tale in the Desert, in Germany under the name Kemet - published A Tale in the Desert, is a MMORPG with 3D graphics that simulates similar to ancient Egypt to build a civilization. The player has to promote both themselves and the gaming community in different disciplines.

The objective of the player community is to exist in seven disciplines seven tests. The background story is about the conflict of "Strangers " of the Pharaoh ( the In - Game Character Developer Andrew (Andy ) Tepper ) has bet that the player community does not reach this goal.

Game concept / features

Kemet differs from other MMORPGs, it renounces by monsters and any struggle, and largely on experience points. Instead, players can improve their skills in the seven disciplines by there are various tests. These tests are sometimes very difficult and tedious, correspondingly high demands on the long-term motivation.

Another special feature is the limited amount of time. Whereas other online games in principle create a permanent virtual world and usually seek to keep the player for years to come in this world, now since the end of May 2006, new tarnished Telling III will have a term of approximately 1.5 years. After this time, it is decided whether Pharaoh or the Stranger win this episode.

Another special feature is the ability for players to propose itself new rules and laws can be voted on and which are then fitted by the Pharaoh in the game ( unless he vetoes a technical or playful reasons). So were several potentially destructive technologies, such as the complete felling of trees for timber production or fast morphing normal lakes in sulfur-containing limited by the players themselves with their own rules. It already unpopular players were banned from the game. Pharaoh is the way an existing character and can ingame by any player be addressed directly. Andrew " Teppy " Tepper is the boss of the company eGenesis and a developer "hands ", like all other developers and game masters also.

Crafting

The main occupation ( at least in terms of the time required ) of the player in Kemet is crafting, ie the production of objects that need it or other players in the game ( usually for testing or research). In this respect, Kemet is very diverse. Employment opportunities range from collecting mud and clay on the breeding of different animals and plants and even the operation of complex machinery, such as for the production of charcoal. Many of these activities are in real time and require the player a certain amount of skill, that is, when the charcoal is ventilated or cooled accordingly not, it burns or turns, giving the player forces for about 5 minutes to great concentration. Skillful players who can serve multiple Holzkohleöfen about the same time, so have a great advantage, which the resources and concerns procurement of goods.

Many things can be practically achieved only through cooperation of different players with reasonably tolerable time. From this necessity results in a division of labor between the players.

Many also require that you find out the optimal process for the production itself. About the optimal production of ash through the controlled burning of papyrus and leek in wood fires, for example, there are several almost scientific studies of the players.

Research: Schools and universities

Society as a whole develops in Kemet further, research is conducted, are introduced by the new skills, buildings, machinery or resources into play. The research takes place in universities, but they require large amounts of resources before the relevant research is released. After the research is released, anyone can learn the skills of the associated schools.

Many things need to be further developed by the players themselves and / or researched. For example, there are ways to interbreed higher yielding varieties of flax or simply just develop beautiful flowers.
