A Taste of Honey is a British film directed by Tony Richardson from 1961 The film is based on the eponymous drama (Original title: A Taste of Honey ). Shelagh Delaney of which also took part in the script.
Action
The film is set in the British city of Salford by 1950. Jo, a seventeen- year-old girl from the working-class neighborhood, lives in unstable family situations with her mother Helen.
After Helen has begun with Peter, a much younger and wealthy man, a relationship, she leaves Jo. At the same time, Jo falls in love with Jimmy, a dark-skinned sailors and becomes pregnant by him. When Jimmy goes back out to sea and she is repeatedly put on her own, she meets the gay fashion student Geoffrey. Geoffrey moves in with Jo and simultaneously assumes the role of father for her baby. When Helen, which has since broken up with her lover, unexpectedly returns, Geoffrey recognizes bitter that for him now is no more room, leaving Jo.

Awards
The film was awarded in subsequent years with several international prizes.
