A time to make friends

"A time to make friends" was the official theme of the FIFA World Cup 2006, which was held in Germany from 9 June to 9 July 2006. The slogan for the World Cup finals was unveiled on 19 November 2002 in the FIFA World Cup Stadium Gelsenkirchen. It should express the solidarity of the Germans with the sport and their hospitality.

Had devised the slogan André Heller, who had been first obtained for the framework program of games, but had with the organizers, FIFA, fallen before the games.

Translations

In addition to the German sentence, there was also sometimes a bit more freer translations in other languages:

Use

Signs on motorways

The Federal Ministry of Transport has developed in consultation with the World Cup organizing committee information boards for the motorways. A total of

  • 55 welcome boards at the federal limits ( overprint Welcome, as well as in the local language of the respective neighboring country )
  • 51 information panels ( A time to make friends ) and
  • 19 information panels (A time to make friends )

Produced. The cost of the welcome signs wore the collar, the information boards were funded by FIFA.

Motto in Philately

The German Post AG brought on 9 February 2006, five surcharge stamps for the sport out, of which four related to the football World Cup in 2006. On the stamps, in itself, the motto is not, however, to the so-called corner border pieces and the date stamps of Bonn (stamp inscription ) and Berlin ( Stempelumrandschrift ) the motto is recorded.
