A Weekend in the City is the second studio album by the band Bloc Party.

Genesis

The band wanted, according to the singer Kele Okereke by no means a kind of " Silent Alarm Pt. 2 publish ", the sound is therefore clearly failed electronic and experimental than the debut. The album is, inter alia, to violence, the terrorist attacks on 7 July 2005 in London, immigration and drug abuse. In interviews Okereke admitted to venture into his lyrics to a greater extent on political issues, especially some racist incidents in the UK were in favor of the trigger. The album cover is a photograph called A Modern Project by Rut Blees Luxembourg. At the same time appeared the single The Prayer (B-side: We Were Lovers ).

Achievements

It sold in the British space so often that it reached 2007 # 2 on the UK album charts in February. In the U.S., the album was successful; with 47,726 copies sold, the album climbed to number 12 in the Billboard charts.

Versions

The album was released in different versions. A limited edition containing a DVD with bonus material. Also for the various download portals such as iTunes and Napster different bonus tracks were recorded. Other bonus tracks can be found on the Japanese and the Canadian version of the album. In addition to the CD versions also a Picture- LP was released without bonus material.

Songs

  • The song Song for Clay ( Disappear Here ) was actually called merge on freeway and based on the novel Less Than Zero (German: Sub-Zero ) by Bret Easton Ellis.
  • The Prayer was originally called A Prayer to the Lord, on initially wet and Where Is Home really Death of a Century.

Use

  • The songs Kreuzberg I Still Remember were used in an episode of the television series The OC, which aired on 15 February 2007.
  • I Still Remember is part of the soundtrack of Til Schweiger film Keinohrhasen.
