A. D. Walsh

Arthur Donald Walsh ( born August 8, 1916 in Loughborough, † 23 April 1977) was a British chemist and longtime professor at the University of Dundee.

Life

He was born as the son of Bauzeichners and active Baptists Arthur Thomas Walsh and his wife, Amy Florence Walsh, a teacher. In Loughborough, he attended the Grammar School. The study at the University of Cambridge, he joined in 1941 with the Ph. D. from. He taught for six years at the University of Leeds. In 1955 he became professor of chemistry at the University of Dundee. There he became dean in 1967. In this capacity, he contributed significantly to building a Department of Biochemistry. 1976 was urged him because of his Parkinson 's disease to give up his office. He developed named after him Walsh model.

Work

He conducted research mainly on issues of spectroscopy and wrote numerous publications. His name is today connected with diagrams that show a correlation between the number of valence electrons and the geometry of a molecule and thus supplement the knowledge of the molecular orbital theory.

In 1964 when moved to the Royal Society.
