A. E. Matthews

Alfred Edward Matthews ( born November 22, 1869 in Bridlington, † July 25, 1960 in Bushey Heath ) was a British actor.

Life

Matthews began his stage career in 1887 at London's Princess 's Theatre and vaudeville stages and initially filled the compartment of the young lover of. This was followed by commitments to London's West End plays and on tours that took him from the 1890s to South Africa, Australia, the USA and Paris.

Matthews celebrated mainly comic roles with success, one of his greatest successes was Charley's Aunt. In later years, he was seen several times with Gentleman Parts Boulevard in pieces. In the film, he was first in the 1910s, employment, but regularly only from 1940. Embodied There Matty, as he was known in the industry, mostly grumpy types and played almost exclusively in comedies. He was often cast as a nobleman.

AE Matthews was 1916-1918 chairman of the British Film Actors Company.
