A. J. Quinnell

AJ Quinnell ( born June 25, 1940 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, United Kingdom, † 10 July 2005 in Gozo, Malta, real name Philip Nicholson ) was a mystery and thriller author.

Several of the people he describes in his books he actually met on his travels. He was married three times. His last wife, Elsebeth Egholm is a Danish mystery writer.

After his first book, Nicholson decided to keep his real identity secret and to choose a pseudonym. He chose A. J. from the initials of the son of a bartender and Quinnell after the rugby player Derek Quinnell.
