A.M. Best Company is a rating agency based in Oldwick (New Jersey). It is officially recognized by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organization ( NRSRO ) that specializes in the insurance sector.

History

The company was founded in 1899 by Alfred M. Best in New York. The company, which is located entirely in private hands, changed its corporate headquarters in 1965 to Morristown (New Jersey). The present headquarters in Oldwick (New Jersey) moved into the company in 1974, and since 2005 it has been recognized as an NRSRO. A.M. Best currently has offices in London, Hong Kong and Washington, DC
