A. P. Elkin

Adolphus Peter Elkin ( born March 27, 1891 in West Maitland, New South Wales, Australia, † July 9, 1979 in Sydney) was an Australian anthropologist, anthropologist and linguist.

Originally an Anglican clergyman, he became a professor of anthropology at the University of Sydney and went to the study of Australian Aboriginal culture, in particular its totemism deserves. His main work is considered to be from 1938 published in many editions book The Australian Aborigines: How to Understand Them. In addition, he edited the anthropological journal Oceania. He also wrote a history of the Diocese of Newcastle.
