On the freedom

The AP Møller- Skolen is a Danish high school in the town of Schleswig, which was opened on 1 September 2008. The school released as the second high school of the Danish minority in Germany which had existed since 1920 Duborg - Skolen in Flensburg.

Basics

The 15,000 -square-foot building was built on a plot of 10.4 hectares on the old barracks on the freedom east of the city center right on the Schlei.

It also houses a comprehensive school for 7th to 10th grade and Upper Secondary School for the 11th to 13th classes. The school takes a total of about 500 students. For this act the two existing Danish schools in the city, the Gottorp - school and Hiort -Lorenzen - school, just as elementary schools up to grade 6.

History

The name has been fixed for the groundbreaking ceremony on 3 May 2007; the school bears the name of AP Møller- Skolen (also written AP Møller Skolen, which is not what the Danish spelling rules). Principal of the school is currently head of the Department of Border Region Studies in Aabenraa, Jørgen cooling since 1 August 2006.

The gymnasium is a gift worth 60 million euros, the private foundation of the Danish ship owner Mærsk Mc- Kinney Møller, the Danish minority in the Schleswig region that already for years supported the shipowner, including new buildings. As with many of his other projects, the founder personally investigated from the land and was instrumental in the design of the building with. The additional costs that will be associated with the operation of a second Danish school, are to be collected by the Danish state.

The construction period was 2006 - 2008th The new building was planned by the Arkitektfirmaet CF Møller A / S, project and construction management had Lindø byg A / S, landscape planning Kessler & Chandler Landscape Architects
