The U.S. public company A. Schulman, headquartered in Akron, Ohio is a company in the field of plastic compounding. The company offers technical plastic compounds, color concentrates and additives for plastics and plastic powder for a wide range of applications in the plastics processing. The aim of compounding can be found by an appropriate material design for technical material requirements a solution. The main customers of compounds are the automotive and packaging industries, the materials are also used in many other products. The company employs approximately 3,400 people (as of 2014) and has 38 production sites worldwide, including one in the Rhineland Kerpen.

Company History

The company was founded in 1928 by Alex Schulman, 1929 followed by the opening of the first plant on the site of today's corporate headquarters in Akron, Ohio. Just as in 1935 opened manufacturing facility in East St. Louis, Illinois were first manufactured components made of rubber for both growing automotive industry. After the Second World War thermoplastics have been added to the product assortment and set up first trading operations in Europe. It was followed by the creation of the production facilities in Bellevue, Ohio (founded 1955) for preparation of the mixture of PVC and for the production of ABS, PP, PE and PS compounds and Orange, Texas (founded in 1959). The first European factory was built in 1963 in the Belgian Bornem. The first production facility in Germany followed in 1973 in Kerpen.
