A. V. Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Hillsborough

Albert Victor Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Hillsborough KG, CH, PC ( born May 1, 1885 in Weston -super- Mare, Somerset, † January 11, 1965 in London, United Kingdom) was a British politician of the Labour Party and British defense minister in the government of Clement Attlee.

Alexander held, among other things three times the office of the First Lord of the Admiralty (1929-1931, 1940-1945 and 1945-1946 ).

He was raised in 1950 as Viscount Alexander of Hillsborough, of Hillsborough in the City of Sheffield, in the hereditary nobility. In 1963, the title of Baron Weston -super- Mare, Weston -super- Mare of in the County of Somerset, and Earl Alexander of Hillsborough him were also awarded. Since he left no son, his title lapsed with his death in 1965.
