A.D. Belén

Belén Bridgestone FC is a football club from Belén, Heredia Province, Costa Rica, which Costa Rican in the highest league, the Primera División de Costa Rica plays.

History

Belén Bridgestone FC was founded on 13 June 1973 under the name AD Calle Flores was the first football club in the canton of Belén. After 14 years in amateur football succeeded Calle Flores to be 1987 third division champions and to fight for a starting place so División in the Liga de Ascenso - Segunda.

After two seasons in the second division was the name of the club in 1990 AD by Belén. 1992/93 was Belén first time in the finals of the second league, which Belén won with 4:1 and 1:0, and thus for the first time in the Primera División de Costa Rica climb.

Belén remained then for 5 years and achieved first class in the years of excellence exclusively at most mediocre finishes, the biggest success was a 5th place. 2004/ 05 Belén was once again top notch, after won the second division final against Deportivo Cartagena for itself in the season before. Belén was then the last, and rose again in the second division.

In the following years Belén came increasingly into financial difficulties and also sporting the level fell piece by piece and insufficient placements were achieved.

In the 2009/10 season the club got financial help from businessman Minor Vargas and from the 2010/11 season the club was virtually financially dependent on him. Vargas also funded the restoration of the stadium Poli Deportivo Belén and had it fitted with an artificial turf. For the season 2010/11 towards the club was also renamed Corporación Deportiva Belén Siglo XXI ( short CD Belen Siglo XXI). With the money Vargas ' could Belén strengthen his squad and in the Apertura took the club behind Deportivo Cartagena the runner-up title. After Vargas was arrested in the U.S. for fraud (there are at least 620 million dollars) was the club because without financial resources. They decided to play the second round anyway and from March 2011 got the players any salary paid. Team and coaching staff decided to stick together until the end, and even paid the journey to the games themselves. Mainly due to the great cohesion managed Belén eventually win the Clausura and qualify for the final for promotion. This was won against Deportivo Cartagena and thus Belén rose for the third time in the first league. Had the club not risen, he would have had to disband due to the financial situation.

Since the 2011/12 season under the name of Belén Belén plays Bridgestone FC in the Primera División de Costa Rica.

Stadium

Belén plays its home games at the City of belonging, about 3,000 -seat Estadio Polideportivo Belén, which was renovated in early 2010. Previously, the club wore their home games among other things, also at the National Stadium and in today abandoned Estadio Pedregal.
