A.D. - Anno Domini is a 5 - part mini- series, which was formed in 1985 under the direction of Stuart Cooper.
Action
A.D. - Anno Domini is a continuation of Franco Zeffirelli's film Jesus of Nazareth, and tells the story of the Apostles Peter and Paul and the persecution of Christians in ancient Rome.
Very detailed the apostles story is told, and parallel the rise and fall of the Roman Empire.
Background
The script provides not only facts from the book of Acts but also from ancient sources. The writer Anthony Burgess, who collaborated on the screenplay, published in 1985 a novel ( The kingdom of the wicked, German The Empire of Corruption ), which deals with the same themes as the series.
The film was shot with a budget of $ 30 million on location in Tunisia.
The epic was in Germany so far only twice - in 1987 ( ZDF) and last time in 1997 /98 ( TM3 ) - aired. Also videos and DVDs were produced either in Europe or in the USA. That is why A.D. - Anno Domini for those who have recorded this movie on one of the two broadcast dates, "unique ". However, a DVD release in the U.S. has recently appeared.
